"She's got the stage presence, the voice, the ability to interpret songs passionately ... there's a lot of soul in what she does" -- Billboard Magazine

When talking about the creative process, Peter Gabriel once commented, “I think you plug into this electricity. It’s like a river in a way, no question. When the magic’s in the air, everyone in the room feels it. ” For some people, creativity is a solitary thing. For Jill Jack, it’s as simple as breathing, as everyday as vacuuming, as open and natural as Jill is herself. And when it came time for her to record another record, it was natural for Jill to invite her audience in to experience some of that creative magic. And so, for two nights in April 2009, Jill and her carefully selected musicians created an event that everyone in the room felt a part of. Jill Jack’s seventh record is the result.

Songwriter Sessions was recorded over those two nights in the historic Hartland Music Hall in Hartland, Michigan – 15 previously unreleased songs in two concerts specifically crafted around the theme of songwriting. Each song was introduced with a story on where and how the song came about. “So many people would ask me how I came to write a certain song, or tell me that they remembered the story behind the writing of a song and that’s why they bought the record, that I thought it would be a good idea to just show that process. People are extremely curious about the songwriting process, and I thought having an audience share the experience a little through me telling the story behind each song, and then to perform it in pretty much its virginal state – like I said, it was a huge undertaking,” she laughs, “ but I thought, if I pulled it off, it’d be really good!”

"She's sharp, she's witty, and she's got soul. Most important, I think based on her songwriting and style, she's got staying power" -- WDVR-FM in New Jersey

When you’ve conquered your market, won a gazillion awards and developed a devoted fan base that follows you everywhere you play, opening a window and shining a light onto the entire process of songwriting for your fans is, really, an inevitable extension of the kind of relationship and communication Jill has with her fans. Jill’s career is firmly founded on that deep abiding current of empathy and excitement between her and the audience, the warmth and generosity that flows both ways during a show. Her genre-blending style of folk, rock, country, Americana and just plain good songwriting reaches out and connects wherever she goes. Jill has also worked with the burgeoning Michigan film scene both as an actor and as a soundtrack contributor. But Jill’s strength has always been her live shows and the connection with her audience.
